We flew to Japan for the birth of our first grandchild. It was an awesome time in the genuine sense of the word “awesome”. Too soon we had to come home and for a long period our only contact was through the miracle of Facetime. Later as we were waiting for Daddy to be rotated home the child’s only contact with him was through that app. I had to laugh recently when I saw the Babylon Bee sharing about a grandmother giving her family a tour of the ceiling. My granddaughter used to take the I-Pad and walk around giving her dad a view of all our light fixtures.
I have worried about the exposure to electronics. We try to keep the screen time down and read to the kids. At the same time, I wonder if the early exposure to Facetime will be an element that helps my granddaughter understand the existence of God. Much of her contact was non-physical and yet real. That is a lot like our experience of the divine.
What a great time to be alive.
