Opus 2021-209: On the Street: Millennial Towers

We are on the road again and people are back on the move.  We are in our second night out.  The first night we stayed at a motel we had been in before.  There were no big surprises.  My wife again complained that the beds were too hard.  I keep hoping we will find the hotel with baby bear’s bed but it has not happened yet.

The second night was the awesome experience.  It is a hotel so new that it did not show up on the road side signs telling us where things were.  It is called Tru, an affiliate of Hilton.  When we saw it we started wandering what we were getting into.  The front of the hotel had columns of psychedelic panels.  We are used to pulling up under an awning to unload.  This had a short canopy that did not come out to the pavement.  We hope it isn’t raining in the morning.  The lobby/breakfast area/entertainment center featured brightly colored high stools around small tables, hanging chairs and ottomans.  Over to the side was a pool table.  I stopped to use the bathroom off the lobby and knew I was in a different world.  It was a unisex presentation.  I was not aware of all the things offered to the ladies.  In addition the sink had tubes of soap on the wall that you squeezed to get what you wanted.  I later found the same thing in the shower of our room.  What really told me I didn’t belong was the toilet paper being hung to roll from underneath instead of over to top.

My wife said it felt like a single pick-up spot.

At least the air conditioning works.  Maybe it keeps the snowflakes from melting.

  1. The best reason I ever heard for having the toilet paper hung to roll from underneath was so the cat couldn't waste the whole roll by batting at it.

I guess I would use a unisex bathroom if I was unisex. But I'm not so I won't.
