Opus 2020-058: Headlines: Old Fashioned Famine

Here is an issue you might have missed in all the noise about the Chinavirus.  It seems that the locusts are on the march in Africa.  This is from World Net Daily.

What struck me is that this is the second wave.

Historically Americans don’t seem to think about pests like locusts much.  I see a grasshopper every once in awhile.  It doesn’t stir much interest.  We have had locust problems here.  When the Mormons were trying to get established in Utah they were attacked by swarms.  They consider it a miracle from God that large flocks of sea gulls showed up to feast on the pest.  We usually think of this as something from the far past.  It was one of the plagues God sent against Egypt when Pharaoh would not let Israel go.  You find them mentioned in Revelation.

Maybe it is time to bring back DDT.  If you take the deaths caused by malaria and add the numbers that starve to death because it wasn’t around to kill the locusts you run into some serious issues that dwarf the panic over the Chiniavirus.

Wash your hands and watch out for unicorns.
