Did you know the sun moves? I don’t mean from east to west. Even children in public school know that. They may not know east from west but they know the sun moves. I mean it moves from north to south. I have always known this intellectually but living in Texas it has become very clear.
When we first spent the night in our new house I noticed that the sun came up on the left side of our kitchen window. I have watched it move to the right until it is now coming up behind the roof of the garage and we still have almost two months of movement coming.
I know to some of you this is old hat but for me it is an unusual phenomenon. In California I had to struggle with the sun in my eyes as I drove to work or shining through my rear view mirror going in the other direction. Here it is a pleasant observation as I stand by the coffee pot.

Yup, that's why solar homes figure winter and summer angles for their roof overhangs.
ReplyDeleteI can see why ancient cultures might get concerned about the sun disappearing except for the fact that it always comes back.
