The freeway was strangely empty this morning. I began to wonder why.
Are the welfare checks in so the masses of California were out shopping? No. They would not be normally driving to work.
Did the rapture take place and I have been left behind? No. I might be left behind but there would not be enough people taken to effect traffic.
After the president’s speech on his coming gun grab, were people lined up at gun stores while they still could? I like that idea.
Then it occurred to me. It is Epiphany. It is the day that the Western Christian church remembers the coming of the Wise Men and the Eastern Church celebrates the birth of Jesus. Keeping in mind how many Christians have been fleeing the Middle East to escape the murderous pogroms perpetuated by Islam it stands to reason that much of Southern California might be staying home to celebrate what many of us think of as Christmas.
That must be it.
So celebrate with our Eastern Church brothers and sisters even if it is only by enjoying the light traffic.
Ebullient Epiphany.
