Recently Alistair Begg quoted Albert Einstein. It doesn’t really matter the quote. I am sure it was very clever and fit into the sermon. The problem I have is that we quote people like Einstein on issues of life. If you have a question about physics or relativity, he might provide some real insights. His personal life was devoid of morality and his positions on the social issues of his day were bad. He was usually a brilliant scientist. That does not make him qualified to comment of the big issues. We have the mistaken idea that celebrity status qualifies us to comment on life changing topics. It doesn’t work that way. Your grandmother, who did not graduate from high school, may be more qualified to give wisdom than any scientist or actor that has ever existed. Let me go one step further. Your grandmother was definitely more qualified.
If you want to know how to build a rocket ship, Einstein might help. If you want to know if you should build a rocket ship, he would not have had a clue.
