Dominance. It is a part of everyone’s life.
Some people seek to dominate. This is behind much of the behavior and manipulation we see in school children as well as politicians in D.C. It is behind real bullying. It causes problems in marriage and parenting. It ruins friendship.
Some seek to avoid being dominated. This is me. I do not need to run your life but I will never stop struggling to keep you from dominating me. What comes across as uncooperative or stubbornness is often just an attempt to keep you from controlling my life. In the army I used to sit and try to figure out how to keep from calling officers “sir” if I felt like they did not deserve it.
In between you have the sheep. They may have struggled for a time in their youth or childhood but for some reason independence and resistance was leached out of them. Perhaps they never had any drive or dreams. Now they are the masses. Some are unwashed and some are very well heeled. They are still sheep.
If I have one desire on this issue it would be that the sheep would begin to wake up. We have had brief moments when this happened. Think of the days after 911 when the American people seemed to get their head out of the sand. It did not last for long. It will probably take a bigger and more personal pain for people to stay awake.
They have had plenty of sleep. They should be well rested.

I am finding that within my family, those who remain part of the flock are perfectly content because as sheep they don't have to face the realities that those who are awake can see coming toward us. Their most pressing problem seems to be what to do with this crazy relative who keeps telling them to prepare and keeps warning them about their future.
ReplyDeleteDo I get to guess who that "crazy relative" might be?

I don't think it will ever happen again in any usable way, but hey; what do I know?
ReplyDeleteMore than the general population.
