The person who said, “There is no such thing as a dumb question” had never taught 8th grade. Let me give you a few examples.
“What time is this class over?”
On the first day of school or a day with a special schedule this might be a reasonable question but after 35 weeks of school, on a normal day, and the schedule printed in large print on the bulletin board, it is a stupid question.
“Do we need our book today?”
Keep in mind that one of the assignments for 35 weeks has been to bring their book every day and the daily “tool check” which reduces their grade if it is not on their desk, it is a dumb question. My answer is usually, “Do you need to breathe today?”
I am sure there will be more.

Barely realized that none of my 8th grade teachers never said that there are no such things as a dumb questions
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you have a group of perceptive teachers. Of course it could have been that there were so many dumb questions that even a history teacher would notice. Grace and peace
