Opus 2015-150: Ode to Old: You Know You Are Getting Old When... (Retiring)

What are safe topics to talk about?  The reason we talk about the weather so much is that religion and politics are too dangerous.  I would also recommend that you don’t ask women when the baby is due.  They may just be showing their donuts.

We are also free to ask how people are doing.  Usually this is just cultural jargon that generates a “Fine” in response.  Sometimes it generates organ recitals but you learn after a while not to ask certain people how they are doing.

You know you are getting old when they don’t ask how you are doing but ask when you are going to retire.  I get this question all the time from adults and children.  I also seem to get a lot of junk in my school mailbox about retirement seminars and such. 

So, for the record, I was originally planning on retiring two years ago.  Now I am hoping to make the jump in two years.  As they say in the ads for gold and silver, “...subject to change without notice.”
