While I am on the subject of hope for diabetics let me share something I came across this morning. It is at a blog titled “The White Man” and the post is “Outliving a ‘Death Sentence’.” If you have just been diagnosed or are living in fear of the future, give it a read.

He has some thought provoking posts at times, Pumice; I think you'll enjoy reading them.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a time, but I think you first directed me to him. Thanks again for the links you give.

White Man here, back-linked from my blog. I'm fascinated with records, and thought I already knew the longest Diabetes survivor, a woman who's had it since 1948. I asked her recently how she's survived so long, and she (a registered nurse) said it was because she always took care of herself. She did get married and even gave birth to a son in 1965 (probably one of the first born to a survived juvenile diabetic). She didn't dare risk having another, so adopted her second son--who, ironically, also ended up getting juvenile diabetes. He didn't take care of himself, and now has two artificial legs as a result.
ReplyDeleteThought this extra detail would be of interest here.
The key for success in many health issues seems to be taking care of ourselves, aka being responsible. I am amazed at how many people just want a pill for everything.
DeleteThanks for taking time to comment. I almost missed what you had to say but noticed an odd number of comments in an old post.
