As I have been watching the antics of our elected and appointed officials I found that I repeatedly felt they were violating the principles of America. It occurred to me that I had not read our founding documents in a long time. I decided that I would make it a yearly ritual to carefully read through the Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the United States. I have already finished the Declaration and found much in it that is worthy of comment.
These documents are not Scripture. They are not universal and inspired the way the Bible is. They are the products of a group of truly gifted men but are not God breathed. At the same time I believe that they are a step above other documents of their type. It seems to me that people who want to rewrite the Bible and ignore what it really says are also people who want to rewrite the Constitution and ignore the Declaration. Coincidence?
For those who are not Americans I don’t know what to recommend. Of course I would recommend reading our Declaration of Independence and Constitution because they are historically important, but they are not your laws. I would not know what would be the equivalent in your land. One of the geniuses of our Constitution is its brevity. I leave your focus up to you. Maybe you have some recommendations.
